Where the Brits want to Holiday in 2009?

Published by Lis Sowerbutts at 1:38 am under General Travel Edit This

Well yesterday I reviewed where Frommer’s claims Americans are going on vacation  in 209 - today lets look at another approach. Skyscanner is a popular airline consolidator for the UK which includes most/all of the legendary cheap and bad European charter airlines.

Given that the statistics relate to Pom’s searchs in chilly December that no less than 8 of the top 10 are “sun” destination with 5 in Spain (Malaga, Tenerife, Alacante, Palma and Murica) plus Cyprus, Turkey and  Portugal beach resorts. The only major cities featured were London and Geneva.

Realistically I suspect that Brits looking for longer haul destinations use different search engines and that the budget airlines focus very heavily on north - south flights, particularly to Spain. I once had huge difficulty getting a direct flight from Barcelona to Greece which cost less than a flight via London!  So yes the stats tell us something about the Brits who are looking for a cheap local package - or at least are dreaming of one -
